SUMMARY:PHICHI Workshop: Hot Topics In Interaction Design
LOCATION:Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
DESCRIPTION:Ajax - Usability & Design
\n
\n* What is Ajax?
\n* How does it
 work?
\n* How does it differ from other web technologies?
\n* What are its
 strengths and weaknesses for usability?
\n* How do I apply Ajax effectively
  in design?
\n
\nIf you are losing sleep on any of these questions this ses
sion will cure your insomnia. It is a highly interactive tutorial that look
s at the application of Ajax from both theoretical and practical standpoint
 s. Previous experience of Ajax is not essential.
\n
\nOld Cards, New Tricks
 :
\nInnovative Solutions for Card Sorting
\n
\n* Is card sorting as difficu
 lt as it sounds?
\n* What do those dendograms mean?
\n* How can I get the m
 ost from the results?
\n* How is card sorting done in practice?
\n* Is ther
e an quick and easy way to collect the data?
\n
\nCard sorting can be very
effective in navigation design but traditional approaches make it a dauntin
g task, especially for the uninitiated. This workshop gives participants ha
nds-on experience of several new techniques in the conduct and analysis of
card sorting, in particular using bar codes for data capture and several in
 novative methods of analysis.
\n
\nBiography: William Hudson consults, writ
