Many of us who studied design in college missed those 'leadership classes' typically offered to the business students—our educational focus was on learning creative processes and improving our visual skills. As the definition of corporate competitiveness evolves, the expectations placed upon the design profession grow exponentially. Designers are perfectly predisposed to strengthen their organization's competitive position because they are advocates of innovation and creative thinking.

Maureen Thurston will discuss the fundamental precepts of leadership, diagnose the role of the design leader, explore how core leadership skills can be learned, applied and leveraged, as well as help you develop your own personal leadership style.

Maureen Thurston is an accomplished strategist and author of Design Leverage, and a former Professor of Design Management at Art Center College of Design. Maureen is Principal and Founder of ACCESS International, the first United States brokerage for state-of–the-art product design application.
