Instructor Dirk Knemeyer
Dirk Knemeyer is a principal of Involution Studios, responsible for the business success of the company. He has worked with clients including Yahoo!, Oracle, and General Motors, and was previously the Chief Design Officer at Thread Inc. Dirk is the President of UXnet, the non-profit organization representing the user experience industry, and has been on the Board of eight different corporations and non-profits in his career.
While people pay lip service to "user experience" and "emotional design", in reality companies and practitioners simply don't know how to intentionally and strategically design to stimulate core human needs and desires. Existing design disciplines such as industrial design, interaction design and graphic design do not provide a framework or process to target these critical human considerations. Paradoxically, the products and services that best address and account for deeper levels of human meaning and motivation are the ones that have the most market success and cultural impact.
Students will be introduced to Dirk's unique framework for mapping product planning to designing for real human needs and desires. Then - with an emphasis on group activity and hands-on trial-and-error - students will learn and practice methods for infusing this framework and humanistic design approach into their company and projects. After completing the course, students will be immediately ready to have a significant, practical impact on product or service development in their organization.
As with all Involution Master Academy courses, this class is limited to nine students. This guarantees each student significant interaction with Dirk and a unique opportunity to roll up your sleeves and put these ideas into practice with the recognized industry expert on this topic and your eight classmates. It also means that there are very few seats available, so sign up today!
