SUMMARY: Aligning web site design with human behaviour
LOCATION:Sydney, Australia
DESCRIPTION:During this two-day intensive master class, Indi will give you
a deep understanding of people's motivations and thought-processes, along w
ith the emotional and philosophical landscape in which they are operating.
You use mental models to align your design strategy with how people work. T
his intensive two-day course will help product designers, web designers and
business strategists develop digital, physical, and environmental interact
ions that help people accomplish their goals. Specifically, you will learn
 how to:
\n
\n* Understand the user experience before making design and stra
 tegic decisions,
\n* Provide your organization with a clear roadmap of whe
re it should – and shouldn’t - invest its energies,
\n* Speak to your custo
mers in their language, not in the language of internal processes/structure
 s,
\n* Be confident about your design decisions by grounding them in resea
 rch data,
\n* Learn to decide on generative or evaluative research for the
proper circumstances, and do better than surveys,
\n* Stop the continual
redesign process by deriving an information architecture from users' tasks,

\n* Get everyone—from discordant team members to busy executives—thinking
alike with respect to design and strategy,
\n* Prevent disagreements about
data interpretations within or across design teams.
\n
\nTaking place in
Sydney, this course has already attracted a huge amount of interest, so we
would encourage you to register for the event sooner rather than later to a
void disappointment. For your copy of the course brochure please contact en
 quiries@keyforums.com.au or call us on +61 (02) 9436 4255.
\n
\n

SUMMARY:Web Navigation Design
LOCATION:New York, New York, USA
DESCRIPTION:This day-long class covers principles of web navigation and met
hods of navigation design with practical examples and exercises. Participan
ts should have some experience creating or maintaining websites and are loo
king to deepen their design skills. This includes graphic designers, web ma
sters, usability experts, and beginning to intermediate information archite
 cts.
\n
\nThe web has changed in the last decade. The notion of Web 2.0, in
particular, marks a second phase of the web characterized by user-generate
d content, collaboration, communities, and broader participation in general
. And new technologies, such as Ajax and Flex, point to a more interactive
 web with highly functional applications.
\n
\nAmidst this change, the basic
problems of creating a good web navigation system remain. In many respects
, they only get even more complicated. Business objectives increasingly rel
y on the assumption that people will be able to find, access, and use the i
nformation and services they provide. In other words, in order for web site
s to successful, people must be able to navigate effectively. A “cool” site
with lots of interactivity and user participation will still be lousy if t
 he navigation doesn’t work.
\n
\nAfter this class, you will be able to:
\n
   1. Understand and apply basic principles of web navigation in your work
\
n 2. Recognize different mechanisms and types of navigation, as well as d
 ifferent page types
\n 3. Apply current methods of navigation design for
page layout and creating a unified navigation system
\n

SUMMARY:Guerrilla Usability Workshop
LOCATION:Brighton, United Kingdom
DESCRIPTION:Usability tests are an excellent way of discovering problems wi
th a product or service. Commissioning a dedicated usability lab will provi
de a high degree of scientific rigour but obviously comes at significant co
st. Instead of a single academic evaluation, why not bring your testing in-
house and run it alongside your design and development process? Two or thre
e quick-and-dirty usability tests will not only provide better results but
will also allow you to iterate your product between tests, ultimately leadi
ng to a more refined product.
\n
\nUsability testing needn’t cost the Earth
. In fact, there’s no need for all that expensive equipment, a dedicated la
b and or even expert evaluators. It’s entirely possible to run a test at yo
ur own office, a cafe or even your test participant’s home.
\n
\nWho?
\n
\
nThis training course is taught by Clearleft’s Creative Director, Andy Budd
. Andy is the creator of Silverback, the popular usability testing software
  for designers and developers.
\n
\nWhen?
\nThe workshop will take place on
  Friday, November 28th, 2008 from 9:30am until 5:00pm.
\n
\nWhere?
\n28 Ken
sington Street is in the heart of Brighton’s trendy North Laine, within eas
y walking distance from the train station.
\n
\nHow much?
\nPlaces costs £3
45+VAT per person if booked before October 17th. After that, workshop place
s will cost £395+VAT per person.
\n
\nPlaces are limited to keep the worksh
 op nice and intimate.
