SUMMARY:Mobile User Experience
LOCATION:Virtual
DESCRIPTION:10am PST
\n$129
\n
\nThis 75-minute seminar will give insight i
nto how user experience professionals can engage with the exciting and rapi
 dly evolving mobile landscape.
\n
\nUntil recently, the mobile internet was
a crippled user experience due to product, interface and technical constra
ints. Recent innovations, such as iPhone, the Google Phone, and the BlackBe
rry Storm, are causing an inflection point for the mobile internet, enablin
g new and exciting opportunities for mobile user experience. The opportunit
y for user experience professionals to deliver on the promise of the mobile
internet is ours for the taking. But how do folks who are well versed in c
reating PC-based internet experiences begin to engage with mobile?
\n
\nThi
s seminar is designed to help web design professionals answer that question
  as well as:
\n
\n* Provide insight into emergent internet trends that poin
t to the growing importance of mobile in the evolution of the web.
\n
\n*Id
entify the portable user experience and web skills you've already got that
make you especially well suited for creating great mobile internet experien
 ces.
\n
\n*Identify key similarities and differences in designing for PC/mo
 bile internet experiences.
\n
\n*Provide frameworks and design principles f
or creating compelling mobile internet experiences.
\n
\n*Inspire you to ho
p on the mobile internet wave.
\n
\nDesigning for mobile is more than just
making things fit a smaller screen. You have to take into account context,
people's relationship to their objects, physicality, and a whole host of ot
her factors. Rachel will help you engage with this increasingly important s
 pace.
\n
\nWhat will you learn?
\n*Understand how trends in the Web are pri
 sming through other channels.
\n
\n*Learn research techniques, design exerc
ises and prototyping methods that will allow you to begin designing and dev
eloping mobile internet experiences with confidence.
\n
\n*Inspire new poss
ibilities for taking your products and services forward in 2009.

SUMMARY:UIE Virtual Seminar - Road to Informed Decisions
LOCATION:Virtual
DESCRIPTION:Every design consists of thousands of decisions. Smart, well-in
formed decisions lead to a great design, while poor, uninformed decisions r
esult in something users despise. Making the right decisions is critical to
  the design's success.
\n
\nSolid user research methods, such as usability
testing and field studies, help us learn about our users and their needs. H
owever, collecting the data is just the first step. To succeed, we must ass
emble the seemingly random stuff we learned into a coherent and confident s
et of recommendations for the team to act on -- often with a tight schedule
  and a limited budget.
\n
\nIn this presentation, Jared M. Spool will share
state-of-the-art techniques to get from observation data to informed decis
ions. He'll show you the best practices for teams to organize chaotic data,
develop consensus, bring objectivity out of subjective observations, and p
roduce clear design recommendations. You'll learn how to maximize your rese
arch investment with a concrete set of analysis techniques.
\n
\nRegister w
ith the promotion code BOXES for our lowest rate of just $99!

SUMMARY:Using DiSC for Better User Design
LOCATION:Westbrook, Maine, USA
DESCRIPTION:6:00 p.m. at the TechMaine Technology Center, 506 Main Street,
 Westbrook, Maine.
\n
\nEver since Hippocrates (circa 400 bc), we've know th
at there are four temperament styles. In the centuries, after Hippocrates,
his theories have been further developed, with one element staying constant
: most researchers agreed that there were four main personality/temperament
/behavioral styles. The DISC Behavioral System was originally developed by
William Moulton Marston in the 1920's , and published his findings in his b
ook The Emotions of Normal People, in 1928. In the next decades, several re
searchers and companies have built on Marston's findings, till 1970 when Jo
hn Geier and Dorothy Downey created the DISC Personal Profile System. The
DISC Personal Profile System - like most other personality theories - also
identified 4 styles: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Conscientiousness.
\
 n
\nDiSC can be an important tool for designers as they seek to understand
their users and design to their needs. The relative Dominance, Influence, S
teadiness, or Conscientiousness in a population can be a guide to making de
sign decisions. This talk will take a look at how designers and usability
professionals can apply this in their every day work.
\n
\nA presentation o
f the TechMaine Usability/User Experience User Group, sponsored by Idexx. N
