<full-description>In our years of consulting at Cooper, we've learned that getting the design
right is only half the job; the rest is getting it built. Let our experienced design communicators show you how to persuade the stakeholders that your solution is the best way to satisfy customers and accomplish business goals. After that, we'll teach you how to document the expected form and behavior in enough detail that programmers can build it, QA can write test cases from it, and marketing and sales can start showing it to the world.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Product planners, developers, marketers, usability professionals, design practitioners, and managers who are committed to creating a great customer experience.

YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO:
*Target your communication for specific audiences

*Communicate persuasively to build buy-in throughout the design process

*Present requirements and help stakeholders prioritize them

*Describe an interaction framework and show your audience why it's good

*Defend your design without being defensive

*Create compelling User & Domain Analysis documents

*Construct a detailed Form & Behavior Specification that developers actually want to use

*Get the most from your precious documentation time and effort

COURSE MATERIALS INCLUDE:

*Course binder with hard copies of slides and a variety of useful handouts and worksheets

*An example of a User & Domain Analysis document

*Example sections of a Form & Behavior Specification

<full-description>Join us for this month's Taxonomy Community of Practice conference call: Integrating your taxonomy project with other enterprise initiatives.

Date & Time: Wednesday, Jan 31st - 2:00 to 3:30 PM EST.

Register for the session at http://www.earley.com.
Please register by January 30th to ensure that you receive the instructions in time.

Description
Whether you like it or not, you won't be deriving your taxonomies in a vaccuum. During the development process, you often have to collaborate and integrate with related projects in the enterprise, such as web design, search engine optimization, e-commerce, and enterprise architecture. So how do you keep in alignment with all these other workstreams and keep your project on plan? Our speakers in this session will cover strategies to help you achieve a smooth integration.

Learn about working with cross-functional teams, communication strategies, and cross-initiative workstream integration.

Presenters: Seth Earley (Earley & Associates), Margaret Hanley, and Ron Daniel (Taxonomy strategies LLC)</full-description>

6:00 – Social Hour
7:00 – Presentation

IxDA San Francisco arrives with its first public talk in the city. For the first event in our design tools series we present Kevin Cheng from Yahoo! Brickhouse and OK/Cancel (ok-cancel.com).

Often, wireframes, requirements, personas and other documents have yielded unsatisfactory results – that is, when they are read at all. At Yahoo!, Kevin Cheng has been experimenting with using comics as a technique for communicating the core concepts behind a design’s intended user experience.

In this presentation, Kevin will share how this technique has worked well to get teams informed and on the same page, without fixating on interface details too early in the project. He’ll demonstrate an in-depth walkthrough of his process and the advantages he’s found using comics over other methods. Best of all, you won’t even need to take an art class to use this methodology.

Presented by Interaction Design Association and Cooper.

IxDA has other great events in the works, but we’re always on the lookout for great speakers with great presentations. If you’re interested in speaking at a future event or have an idea for a future presentation, please get in touch!</full-description>
