<full-description>The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Finland, together with the European Commission and the European Network and Information Security Agency, will organise an invitational conference, i2010 - Towards a Ubiquitous European Information Society, on 27-28 September in Espoo, Finland. The conference will address the opportunities and challenges that the rapidly developing information society will pose to political and business decision-makers as well as to the general public.

The conference will be hosted by Ms Susanna Huovinen, Finland's Minister of Transport and Communications. Ms Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Information Society and Media, will address the conference. Some 300 decision-makers and leading experts from EU member states and other European countries are expected to participate.

The conference will examine the opportunities and challenges that new information and communications technology brings to decision-makers in society, to businesses, communities and individuals. The conference will also have three mini-seminars that will focus on information security, the intelligent car and intelligent transport systems, and consumer issues. The aim is to use the outcome of the conference as one of the bases for the discussions at the informal European Council meeting in Lahti in October, where the focus will be on the competitiveness and innovativeness of the European Union.</full-description>

<full-description>Designboost – a new, annual design event in Malmö, Sweden

Designboost is a completely novel concept on the Swedish design market. It will be annual, different, international and will penetrate questions of current interest on design in a broad perspective and put them on the agenda in the society at large. Founders of Designboost are Peer Eriksson and David Carlson together with City of Malmö and Region Skåne. This year’s theme is sustainable design.

Designboost will take place for the first time 17–19 October 2007. It consists of boost meetings, boost chats and a boost happening (formerly known as ; workshops, lectures and exhibition.) This years Designboost has sustainable design as it`s overall theme, an issue that is as pressing as it is difficult to pinpoint.

Design in a sustainable society
Seeing that design is a part of life and life is a constant process Designboost will be an annual event. The rational goal is to carry out a number of days with different items on the programme where the common denominator is design of the future and this year’s overall theme sustainable design, were sustainable is not just environmental aspect although that is a large part of the issue. The visionary goal is to inject the participants with thoughts and make them ponder, question, reflect, be worried and pleased about what design really is all about and how it should be handled and used to give people a better life in a more durable society.

The truth is, there is none
We don’t have the truths. The question is, does anyone? On the other hand there are plenty of questions and possibly some answers. Designboost is supposed to work as a forum where thoughts on sustainable design and durable development can be debated, exchanged and tried. Hopefully this will eventually lead to action.

Among others Jennifer Leonard, Eero Koivisto, Kristina Dryza, Brent Richards and Satyendra Pakhale will participate. For the entire round up, visit http://www.designboost.se

<full-description>InfoCamp is an interdiscplinary unconference that features real-time collaboration, discussion, and participation in just-in-time workshops focused on user-centered design, information architecture, content strategy, and service design. Students, professionals, entrepreneurs and hobbyists from the user-centered design and information architecture community are encouraged to come together to join the conversation. InfoCamp is fueled by the serendipity that results when like-minded people with new ideas build connections and share their passion for information, design, and users.

The bulk of the content and presentations are given by the attendees. These presentations and the exact schedule will be decided the day of InfoCamp. A short keynote presentation will anchor both days’ discussion as we leap into multiple tracks of presentations, panels, product demos and roundtables. Saturday evening will feature a social event with music and drinks.

Keynote Speaker (Day 1): Jacob O. Wobbrock, UW HCI professor

Plenary Speaker (Day 2): Tamara Adlin, co-author of The Persona Lifecycle

    <full-description>CREATE 2009
1-2 July 2009
British Computer Society, Covent Garden, London

CREATE 2009 is a 2-day conference about creating innovative interactions, whether digital consumer products, interactive services or interaction paradigms. A conference where the emphasis is on sharing the wealth of creative ideas we have developed in order to resolve problems, create new capabilities, or new functions, and where the aim is to evolve further creative designs that can make a difference to people.
Programme
Our four keynote presentations are from:
Josephine Reid, Pervasive Computing Lab, Hewlett-Packard
Steve Benford, Mixed Reality Laboratory, University of Nottingham
Andrew McGrath, Director of Design and Usability, Orange Global
Crispin Jones, industrial and interaction designer
There are also papers from both academia and industry, all providing fascinating insights into the practice of user-centred design with digital technologies. Edinburgh Napier University’s Centre for Interaction Design is also providing a novel interactive session during the final afternoon that will get you thinking about the design issues that we will have to address in the near future.
We use the middle evening productively with a showcase event, which was very successful last year. The event enables physical, interactive artefacts and prototypes to be demonstrated; the event is ‘augmented’ with a good buffet and some very drinkable wine.
Who should attend?
This conference will be of use to you if you are involved in user experience design and management, human-computer interaction, interaction design and usability. Delegates have commented in the past how refreshing it is to attend a small, friendly conference with a good mix of academics and practitioners and we hope that this will continue this year.
So come along and share your own creative experiences. We look forward to meeting you on 1 and 2 July at Create 2009.

<full-description>Leaders in the field will speak throughout the day, to help facilitate forums and exercises that we hope will challenge and inspire you. By the end of the day you will generate a design agenda that will describe the responsibilities we bear, cradle to grave, for what we choose to make.

Topics will ultimately be chosen by you, but candidates include the following:

*What concepts, practices, ethics, principles, methods, and case studies can we share which demonstrate effective and practical ecologic design work?
*How must our assumptions and practices change to make responsible use of energy, water, and precious materials? How can the results of our design work encourage similarly positive behavior?
    * How can our practices—and our designs—encourage meaningful human interaction and correct matters of social disparity?
    * How can we amplify intelligence and divert bad decisions as we collaborate with executives, managers, and others to design and operate businesses that offer sufficient profits without doing violence to other values?</full-description>

The new random HIPAA Compliance Audit program is in full swing, and up to 150 covered entities will be audited in 2012. Nearly any health care entity may be subject to an audit; all entities need to know what kinds of information they'll need to provide and how to prevent isues that could lead to violations and fines.

Areas Covered in the Session:

• Fines and penalties for violations of the HIPAA regulations have been significantly increased and now include mandatory fines for willful negligence that begin at $10,000 minimum.

• HIPAA Audits have been few and far between in the past, but that's now changing - the HHS is now auditing HIPAA covered entities and business associates even if there have been no complaints or problems reported.
