<full-description>From September 4th to 10th 2007, Istanbul will again attract design fans from all over the world, hosting it’s one and only Istanbul Design Week.
The creative circles have yet begun to discover Istanbul’s cultural heritage and every step in Istanbul brings out an energy that triggers creativity. All these dynamics open the doors of being a design center and Istanbul Design Week serves as the international creative platform for the new millennium. The title deserved gets stronger as Istanbul is awarded ‘Design City’ by Wallpaper magazine, as a part of Design Awards 2007. As Wallpaper magazine explains; “…perhaps most impressive has been the emergence of a daring design scene.”
With its century old past and a design object all by itself, the venue of Istanbul Design Week, Old Galata Bridge got back to life and became a part of the city’s daily life once again. By using this historical structure, Istanbul Design Week differentiates from other design events in the world. Being the only event giving the possibility to exhibit ‘on water’ is only one of these distinctions. Besides the impressive main location, design will spread all over the city with three different focal points such as the Golden Horn basin, the historic peninsula and city spaces.

How can you convince others that usability efforts are not an added expense, but can actually save money? Usable designs not only make people happy, they are good business. If your site is hard to use, people won’t be able to complete their task or find what they are looking for.

Mary M. Michaels of Human Factors International http://www.humanfactors.com explains how good usability means a good return on investment (ROI), ensuring that dollars are wisely spent, especially in this difficult economic climate.

Learn how to improve productivity and operational efficiency, while minimizing support, training, development, and maintenance costs by focusing on usability. Make the case for usability at
your organization, improve your designs, and demonstrate positive ROI.

Mary M. Michaels, http://www.humanfactors.com/about/marymichaels.asp M.B.A., CUA, is a project director and instructor for Human Factors International (HFI) with 9 years of experience in usability and over 20 years in the IT industry. She is expert in web and intranet user interface design and usability testing. DESCRIPTION

In 2009, Infragistics created Quince, a Silverlight-based pattern library. Quince was conceived from the desire to make formal design patterns more discoverable through a browsable rich interface that now offers over 90+ patterns. But this wasn’t an easy thing to do. Programmer-turned-user experience advocate Ambrose Little will discuss:
	•	Why Infragistics chose to build Quince in Silverlight
	•	The thinking behind pattern choices and formats
	•	Recommendations for authoring new patterns
	•	Insights and rationales that contributed to the design
	•	Ideas for ongoing improvement

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Anyone tasked with designing software interfaces can benefit from greater knowledge and use of patterns. What Ambrose will discuss will especially help people who need to build out their own libraries. Having some experience designing UIs is required; experience with patterns will help, but Ambrose will provide a brief intro for those who are new to the concept.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Ambrose Little has been making software professionally for over a decade, initially as a developer, then as a software architect. In the last several years he has made the conversion from development to leading the user experience. Ambrose has authored multiple technical articles, spoken at numerous technical events, co-authored four books, and been honored by Microsoft for seven years as an MVP (Most Valued Professional) in ASP.NET, Solutions Architecture, and most recently, Silverlight.

<full-description>Bodystorming goes beyond brainstorming by giving an idea a physical form and acting it out in different contexts. The process is designed to uncover how the relationships between people, locations and things affect ideas in ways that written scenarios cannot. It enables rapid iteration of ideas and relationships through a dynamic process of acting and evaluating. The process reveals how people interact with services, products and each other on a physical, emotional and intuitive level. You can learn more about bodystorming here:

<full-description>When it comes to to finding a job in the user experience industry, there's a lot of heartache. There are the confusing acronyms (IxD, UX, IA, etc.), and the job descriptions (like "wireframe") that mean different things to different people. How does a person transition into the field? Are you selling yourself short? How many years of experience do you need? And how much should these jobs pay?

A growing public demand for supplements, along with a relatively relaxed pre-market approval process, has resulted in a flurry of companies creating and marketing their own dietary supplements in the United States. The new random HIPAA Compliance Audit program is in full swing, and up to 150 covered entities will be audited in 2012. Nearly any health care entity may be subject to an audit; all entities need to know what kinds of information they'll need to provide and how to prevent isues that could lead to violations and fines.

Areas Covered in the Session:

• Fines and penalties for violations of the HIPAA regulations have been significantly increased and now include mandatory fines for willful negligence that begin at $10,000 minimum.

• HIPAA Audits have been few and far between in the past, but that's now changing - the HHS is now auditing HIPAA covered entities and business associates even if there have been no complaints or problems reported.
