<full-description>The International Conference on Design & Emotion is a forum where practitioners, researchers and industry meet and exchange knowledge and insights concerning the cross-disciplinary field of design and emotion.

Emotions arise towards people, towards places, towards food, and towards things.

Emotions influence our well-being as well as our purchase decisions. From a design perspective, we need to know more about how artefacts elicit emotions. We also need to know more about the way we can identify the relevant emotional aspects and how we can evaluate the emotional impact of a particular design.

The International Conference on Design and Emotion 2006 is the arena for these topics. </full-description>

-How design provides a repeatable approach to innovation
-Why companies fail at innovation and design
-Assessing how well your organization has incorporated design
-Pros and cons of various organizational structures and processes for design and development
-Determining what roles, processes, and structures are right for your company
-New product definition vs. incremental innovation

Day two
-Principles and challenges in change management
-Being an effective leader of change
-Characteristics of successful change initiatives
-Developing a change plan and building consensus around it
-Identifying a demonstration project
-Identifying ways to measure your success
-Implementing a change plan and handling challenges along the way

As in all Cooper U courses, we’ll provide plenty of content along with hands-on learning. We’ll be taking a business school approach, examining detailed case studies of what has and hasn’t worked for other organizations. We’ll also give you opportunities to apply what you’re learning to your own organization so you’ll have the beginnings of a plan to share when you go back to the office.

Instructors Kim Goodwin and Steve Calde will lead the course, which is limited to 20 people to ensure plenty of interaction.

<full-description>In today?s global competitive environment business model thinking is an essential skill for every business person. A recent CEO survey by IBM shows that business models and business model innovation are on top of the executive agenda. Also, entrepreneurs across industries are searching for the most appropriate business models to bring new and innovative products and services to the market.

Unfortunately, management literature provides little methodological guidance that helps executives and entrepreneurs systematically reflect on the topic of business model design and innovation. This workshop addresses that gap by providing participants with a powerful, tested and pragmatic approach that assists business people in designing competitive and innovative business models.

The approach is based on the ?Business Model Canvas?, which allows business people to describe business models with a simple and common language based on 9 building blocks. This language can then be used to assess business models and come up with new and innovative business model alternatives. The approach appeals to senior executives, department heads, entrepreneurs and financiers alike, since all have a common need of identifying and implementing competitive and sustainable business models.

In this workshop you will:
    * sense why it is indispensable for you to start thinking in terms of business models in today?s competitive landscape
    * learn how to describe your own business model(s) based on the intuitive and pragmatic Business Model Canvas approach
    * be able to generate business model alternatives in your own competitive environment
    * apply the Business Model Canvas approach in break-out sessions

How often do you celebrate failures? Yes, you heard that right. Most
shun failure, but in the right environment, you can get past the
fears and inhibitions, and put the amazing power of studying
failures to work for you.

All those who participate in design, from interaction designers, to
usability engineers, to managers and IA masters, fall victim to the
same challenges when trying to bring good design into the world.
From politics, to hubris, to downright incompetence, there is much
we can we learn by confessing to, and examining the causes of, our
failures. Success stories provide few lessons since everything went
well. It’s the near-successes, the almost worked stories, and the
complete failures that provide us the greatest education in how
successful design happens.

This fun, interactive talk, was one of our most popular at User
Interface 13 last Fall. It explores why designers fail and offers
advice, based on research from over 300 designers and engineers, on
how to learn from and triumph in the face of these situations.

<full-description>Bodystorming goes beyond brainstorming by giving an idea a physical form and acting it out in different contexts. The process is designed to uncover how the relationships between people, locations and things affect ideas in ways that written scenarios cannot. It enables rapid iteration of ideas and relationships through a dynamic process of acting and evaluating. The process reveals how people interact with services, products and each other on a physical, emotional and intuitive level. You can learn more about bodystorming here:
