<full-description>IAs and UX designers are often exceedingly careful to draw a sharp distinction between style and substance. But in fact style has always  been a powerful design tool, acting as a rich resource for innovation  and new solutions to design challenges. Style is a dynamic, self-correcting  system;
it is a pattern language; it bridges branding and functionality, desirability and usefulness; it is, in fact, often the bridge between mere "best practices" and true innovation.

Join Christopher Fahey in a discussion of how, historically, style awareness is a core aspect of innovative design. If you'd like to attend, please send your RSVP to nyc-rsvp@ixda.org.

Details:
Tuesday, Thursday, July 26th at 6:30pm
Location provided on RSVP (send RSVPs to nyc-rsvp@ixda.org).

About Christopher Fahey:
Christopher is a founding partner and the information architecture practice lead at Behavior, an award-winning New York web design consultancy. At Behavior, he has worked with diverse clients including HBO, BusinessWeek, The Smithsonian Institution, McGraw-Hill Professional, JPMorgan Chase, ResortQuest, The National Geographic Channel, AARP, and The Onion. Chris also blogs about design, technology, and culture at his personal site graphpaper.com.

Chris has spoken at the 2003 and 2007 ASIS&T IA Summits, at the 2007 SXSW Interactive conference, and has taught interaction design at Brooklyn
College, FIT, and the City College of New York.

Please RSVP to nyc-rsvp@ixda.org if you'd like to attend.

IxDA San Francisco arrives with its first public talk in the city. For the first event in our design tools series we present Kevin Cheng from Yahoo! Brickhouse and OK/Cancel (ok-cancel.com).

Often, wireframes, requirements, personas and other documents have yielded unsatisfactory results – that is, when they are read at all. At Yahoo!, Kevin Cheng has been experimenting with using comics as a technique for communicating the core concepts behind a design’s intended user experience.

In this presentation, Kevin will share how this technique has worked well to get teams informed and on the same page, without fixating on interface details too early in the project. He’ll demonstrate an in-depth walkthrough of his process and the advantages he’s found using comics over other methods. Best of all, you won’t even need to take an art class to use this methodology.

Presented by Interaction Design Association and Cooper.

IxDA has other great events in the works, but we’re always on the lookout for great speakers with great presentations. If you’re interested in speaking at a future event or have an idea for a future presentation, please get in touch!</full-description>

<full-description>Event Explores Web Content Management Technologies and Their Impact on the Way We Work

Recent advances in content management tools – including Semantic Web technologies—are creating dramatic changes to the way organizations and their staffers work. Web content management software has made it possible for organizations to increase workplace efficiency through collaboration, eliminate unnecessary waste through automation, lower cost of production through process improvements and workflow routing, and, perhaps most importantly, make possible the delivery of relevant content with pinpoint accuracy, increasingly, on demand. When localization and translation enter the equation, these benefits grow exponentially.

Where can organizations find the knowledge needed to take advantage of these powerful, paradigm-shifting technologies? The CM Pros Fall 2007 Summit is an excellent starting place. The event will focus on the importance of web content management and the technologies that are quickly turning the web into a platform for the development of business solutions and information services. The Summit will feature presentations, workshops, and roundtable discussions aimed at helping to demystify web content management strategies, tools, standards, and technologies. </full-description>

<full-description>Good Design Faster will take you from back-of-the-napkin sketching to the presentation and prototyping of design concepts in two fast-paced days. While UX Intensive focuses on deepening expertise in a specific area, Good Design Faster deliberately spans sketching, ideation, group collaboration, and prototyping — giving you a toolkit of light, flexible skills for achieving remarkable productivity in relatively short time. This workshop is highly recommended for anyone working with agile, iterative product teams.

Based on workshops that first debuted at UX Week 2008, Good Design Faster brings together our favored techniques for rapid, flexible design and prototyping, and recreates the experience of two high-energy days in the Adaptive Path design studio. Good Design Faster closes with another favored Adaptive Path tradition, an after party!

What will be covered?
Wireframes aren't enough to overcome new and future challenges of UX. To create great experiences, you need fast, agile, and compelling new tools that generate new ideas and solve tough problems of interactivity, flow, and form. In this hands-on workshop you'll learn methods and build skills to:

* quickly sketch and communicate a vivid user experience through storyboards

* explore your ideas and build team buy-in around the best experience to design and implement

* build interactive prototypes that make your ideas come alive
